Thailand and its cities

Thailand being a part of the Southeast Asia is the only country which has never been colonized. Therefore it lacks the architecture and influence of the colonized countries like Vietnam and Cambodia. There are many small but famous cities which comprise of Thailand.

Bangkok is the capital of Thailand. It is a huge city with some of the worst traffic jams across the globe. Many people try to get out of the city as soon as possible and head straight to the beautiful beaches. Bangkok being the capital is home to the Thai royal family and many other royal palaces as well.

Another city is Chiang Mai which is on the Northern part of Thailand. It is the country’s second most visited city. This city has hundreds of temples and the most important one is Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep that was built on a hill which overlooked the city. This temple has an ancient history, which includes a white elephant which found this place for the temple to be built. It so happened that the white elephant was carrying the holy relic which was placed on its back. But it could not climb the hill even after three unsuccessful attempts and died on the spot. This was taken as a sign and the temple was built there.

Apart from the rich heritage there are many cities with great beaches and nightlife like the Ko Samui and Phuket. While Phuket is becoming increasingly popular, there is hardly a quiet place which can be found across the city, but the nightlife here is really famous. Ko Samui is popular for the white sands and the turquoise sea. Here the tourists may find some quieter beaches on the north side of the city.

There are many other cities which are famous in Thailand and can be explored by the tourists. One needs to plan the trip to explore the country to the fullest.

The temples of Thailand are awe striking and showcase the heritage of the country in detail. Almost 70% of population preaches Buddhism in Thailand and are very sentimental with it. This should be taken off by every tourist when visiting Thailand.

You will find the boats here are mini wooden houses that offer almost all kinds of utilities for sale. This market function on Fridays and over the weekends. Once you’re tired after shopping, do ensure to taste the lovely fat food in the sea food variety.

Taling Chan Floating Market: This is a 24 hour market and you will never be disappointed when you travel to this place. It is about 12 kilometers far from Bangkok and has a relatively less crowd as compared to the other famous floating markets. You will find all sorts of exotic fruits and vegetables here at a good steal as well.

These floating markets function on the rivers and canals; it is also a tourist attraction in itself. Thailand is known for its flea and floating markets.
